Your questions, answered

What is the process of my child receiving therapy?A referral from a doctor is required to initiate an evaluation. The therapist will then complete an evaluation with intake paperwork to learn more about your child and your goals. Based on this evaluation, the therapist will complete a full written report of evaluation findings. The report is sent back to the ordering physician and the physician sends approval for treatment. We then contact the patient to complete the intake paperwork to learn more about your child After the intake paperwork is complete, we contact to schedule and complete a 60-minute initial evaluation of your child. Based on evaluation findings, we determine the need for either a home program or direct therapy to address goal areas. Typically children are seen for 1 hour each week but this may vary based on the child's tolerance and needs. We tailor our approach to ensure your child is comfortable, having fun, and getting the most out of our sessions!

How do I know if my child would benefit from therapy services? If your pediatrician or family physician notes that your child's development is delayed or if you as the parent have concerns regarding their performance or development, your child will likely benefit from therapy services. We offer free screenings of your child consisting of a brief observation and interaction with your child in which we can advise you regarding your child's performance strengths, deficits, and if an evaluation may be helpful. Feel free to reach out via phone or email for the free screening!

What do I do if my child needs services but is in school?Meaningful Movement provides school excuses if your child attends therapy during school hours. We try to minimize the amount of school a child misses, but after school appointment times are limited. We will do our best to accommodate your busy schedule, but sometimes a school-time appointment may be all that is available. We can put you on a waitlist for an after-school appointment time, or happily provide you with an excused absence letter.

What if my child needs more than one of the services you offer? Our goal is to provide one location where parents can receive all the necessary resources for their child's therapy needs! We offer occupational and speech language therapy currently and plan to quickly expand to offer physical therapy services as well. We will try our best to accommodate your scheduling needs accordingly.

Can I attend my child's treatment sessions with them? The short answer is, yes! Your presence is not required, but we love to educate parents and encourage parent involvement in the therapeutic process! However, some children may perform better when parents are not present. We let the treating therapist use their judgement to determine if parent presence affects the child's performance. If it's best that you don't attend, we debrief at the end of the session to review what we did, how the child performed, and any recommendations we may have.
